I’m sorry, I don’t have anything nice to say today.
Your entire society is based off of a defect of your self identification drive. Your shame, your sham, your cloak that coats your soul.
The bind of this binary has created a world dependent on its maintainance. Each new generation must be bound, or bid farewell in their dishonor to the culture.
Nathanson, in “Shame and Pride” called shame a compass of scripts with the four directions: attack self, attack others, withdraw, avoidance.
All because we look down and away at what was once positively enjoyable to us?
Nay, there’s more. He missed what he had to to survive in the era he was reared in. He completely ignored the menstrual cycle and its impact on the shame of being born female. He correctly identified the dominant social script of: women bear children, men need to feel important. He didn’t go far enough to correlate the dominant cultural influence on shame, so much so that he assumed shame was negative and meant to perform such scripts rather than realizing he merely identified exactly where the parasite of the patriarchy is installed into humanity.
The compass of shame is mapped out with patriarchal conditioning.
My joystick knows only the pleasures at the depths of my soul.
We are not the same.
So let me show you the real game.
Hint hint; it isn’t based on shame at all. Not the way we understand it, not the way Nathanson described it. It’s merely a tool of internal reflection that has been disordered for so long we assume we know its normal function. But how can we when we’ve never lived in a world free from the mutations of its mutiliations within us? I am placing an earmark here in history to unpack the impact of not having a herstory go alongside this cultural development of this species. What would humanity look like if we didn’t develop our society out of our shame affect, and didn’t demand we flatten our responses to live in perscribed ways?
What would humanity look like if we didn’t exist in a cultural conditioning that bound our gender and social roles and scripts to one singlar part of our bodies; genitals. This genderification of genitialia is not required for the human species to survive or thrive, it is merely the one choice given in the current modern era; an era based on centuries of abuse from others in our species to the point where our biggest enemies are each other, not mother nature.
Yet mother still provides for all….still.
